Toledo.- Milagros Tolón, delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, has presided today in Toledo the act of the 180th anniversary of the Civil Guard Foundation that has been celebrated in the quartering of the regional capital, where he has congratulated all the members of the Corps, to whom he has publicly shown his support and recognition, "my first thought is directed to all the civil guards who over these years have given their lives in an act of service to safeguard our security and our rights. They will always be alive in our memory and their memory will always occupy a space in our hearts.”
An event in which he has been accompanied by the chief general of the 2nd Zone of the Civil Guard, Francisco Javier Cortés; by the subdelegate of the Government of Spain in the province of Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, and by different commanders of the Civil Guard and authorities.
“A load of excitement and pride”
Milagros Tolón recalled that “this barracks of Palomarejos have been the scene of a thousand adventures from my childhood, sharing illusions and joys with my playmates. As mayor of Toledo, in 2019 we dedicated to the Civil Guard the roundabout between Barber Avenue and Portugal Avenue, coinciding with the 175th anniversary of the Corps. For all of this, coming today to preside over this event as a representative of the Government of Spain has for me an extra burden of emotion, pride and responsibility.”
The Government delegate stressed that “these 180 years are a success story that is based on the responsible work and dedication of the men and women who today are part of the Body and all those who preceded you.”
And that today “the Civil Guard addresses important challenges that we share as a society. To the new global threats and risks of cybercrime are added others such as the fight against gender violence or the protection of the environment. The demographic challenge is also an issue that particularly challenges us in Castilla-La Mancha. In this area, the Civil Guard is essential in guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of all citizens, regardless of where they live.”
“Castile-La Mancha is a safe region”
For Milagros Tolón, “it is very gratifying that two of the five commanders of Castilla-La Mancha are led by women, showing that this Corps increasingly resembles Spanish society. However, we must continue to work because there is a long way to go. To meet all these challenges, more technical means, more civil guards and better training are required. The Government of Spain is aware of these needs and, therefore, has been expanding the workforce in recent years, with an increase in agents destined for Castilla-La Mancha in the last six years.”
He also stressed that “Castilla-La Mancha is a safe region, and this is reflected in crime rates. But in the fight against crime and in the protection of citizens there is never an excess of resources, and it is the commitment of the Government of Spain to continue improving the benefits and means of the Civil Guard in our autonomous community. You can be sure that I have made available to this objective all my efforts and capacities since I arrived at the Government Delegation and I will continue in this endeavour, you have my word.”
“I want to congratulate the 5,000 CLM civil guards”
Milagros Tolón stressed that “on this day I want to congratulate each and every one of the 5,000 civil guards of Castilla-La Mancha who dedicate 24 hours a day 365 days a year to protect the lives of citizens and to ensure that we can exercise our rights freely.”
The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha concluded that “they are 180 years of brilliant trajectory with the values that define you always present: sacrifice, loyalty, discipline, exemplification, closeness and vocation of public service, putting the needs of the neighbor ahead of their own. We share the same mission that is security and the free exercise of our rights and in this mission you will always count on my loyalty to ensure that Castilla-La Mancha remains one of the safest regions in Spain, and Spain one of the safest countries in the world. You count on the affection of the citizens, with the support of the Government of Spain and with my personal commitment. In all humility I say to you that I share your vocation of service, your intense work and your determination.”
