The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has awarded 1.3 million euros (VAT included) for a contract of works to humanize the section of the TO-22 road located between the Avenida de Madrid and the glorieta del Salto del Caballero, in the municipality of Toledo.
The aim of the actions, funded by the NextGenerationEU funds, is to enable a pedestrian route, a bicycle lane and landscaping the area to promote active and sustainable mobility, ensure connectivity and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Currently, both the road and the roundabout have a totally urban traffic serving mainly for the connection between neighborhoods and sports areas.
The road does not have sidewalks or pedestrianisation elements, although they do exist in the streets around it (avda. de Madrid and calle de Paris). On the other hand, the Horse Jump roundabout, despite the fact that, in some sections it has these elements, it is necessary to adapt its interior space to the standards of an urban roundabout located in an area of access to a city that is also a heritage of humanity.
Performances
The actions contemplated in the project are as follows:
Execution of a pedestrian itinerary and a bike lane
Landscaping of the islet of the roundabout of the Salto de Caballero and of the vial of connection between roundabouts.
Execution of drainage systems: collectors, sinks, downcomers, etc.
Milling and extension of bituminous mixtures.
Execution of sidewalks.
Execution of overhangs on the road of the connecting vial between roundabouts.
Replacement of affected services (gas and telephony)
Signage: painting of road markings and placing of vertical signs.
The action is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), within the voyage humanization program, which plans to invest up to 105 million euros to promote a more sustainable, inclusive and accessible urban environment. This is intended to promote the configuration of cities oriented to return spaces for other forms of alternative mobility to the car and to guarantee the physical connectivity of people.
