The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has highlighted the progress of the seasonalization of tourism represented by the actions carried out or being carried out in the region of Liébana and Peñarrubia within the framework of the Tourism Sustainability Plan.
A plan that involves an investment of 2.75 million euros, which will last until May 2025 and in which the Government of Spain collaborates, through the Secretary of State for Tourism, the Government of Cantabria and the municipalities from the Community of Liébana and Peñarrubia.
Casares visited on Monday one of the performances already completed, the Romanesque interpretation center in Liébana, next to the temple of Santa María de Piasca, and toured it with the mayor of Potes and president of the Commonwealth, Javier Gómez.
Other actions already undertaken with the funds of the Tourism Sustainability Plan are the viewpoint of Vega de Liébana on the river Frio from which you can admire Dobres and Cucayo or the Plaza Jesús of Monasterio de Potes.
There are also other initiatives planned to implement quality and sustainability systems, reduce the environmental impact of tourism, improve signage and smart access, recover historical and cultural heritage, and create products such as 'Liébana Slow Tourism' and electric cycle tourism routes.
The plan also includes promotional campaigns to de-seasonalise demand and consolidate Liébana as a sustainable tourist destination.
The government delegate in Cantabria has also visited in Peñarrubia, together with its mayor, Seconino Caso, several actions framed in the Tourism Sustainability Plan such as the improvement of the viewpoint of Santa Catalina, the new caravan car park or the route of Mount Hozarco.
23.2% FALL IN CRIMINAL OFFENSES IN POTES
On the other hand, Casares chaired this Monday together with the mayor of Potes the Local Security Board, in which he has realized the decrease of 23.26% of criminal offenses in the municipality in the period from January to September compared to the same months of 2024.
During those nine months, conventional crime has decreased by 22.1% while cybercrime has remained stable, with 15 criminal offenses out of the total of 33 recorded in the Lebanese capital.
The meeting, which was held at the Centre for Lebanese Studies, also reported that two cases of gender-based violence in the VioGen System are active in the municipality.
