- The government delegate in Cantabria visited this Monday the facilities of the Rescue and Intervention Group in Mountain of the Civil Guard in the headquarters of the Lebanese capital
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, highlighted the “exhaustive preparation” of the troops of the Rescue and Intervention Group in Mountains (GREIM) of the Civil Guard based in the Potes barracks and that so far this year, until the end of October, they have developed 14 rescues.
Casares visited this Monday in the Lebanese capital the facilities of the GREIM in the barracks together with the head of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, Lieutenant Colonel Julio Postigo.
The representative of the State has taken stock of the activity of the GREIM so far this year. Thus, it has indicated that the agents of this group have carried out 14 interventions, six of them on foot and eight with the participation of the helicopter.
In these actions, Casares has detailed that GREIM agents assisted and/or rescued the seven unharmed people and four wounded and recovered the bodies of seven deceased people.
The government delegate has highlighted the “exhaustive technical and physical preparation” of the troops of this special group of the Civil Guard who, in Cantabria, act mainly in the Picos de Europa National Park but also move to other points of the region when required.
“GREIM is one of the strongholds of the Civil Guard, which carries out its functions effectively, rigorously and tenaciously in all parts of the country but even more so in these areas, where the difficulty in carrying out its work is added by the orography of this incomparable natural framework that Picos de Europa gives us,” he added.
VISIT TO TRESVISO
Previously, the government delegate in Cantabria visited the municipality of Tresviso together with the ROCA Team of the Civil Guard, dedicated to performances and interventions in rural areas, and there he held a meeting with the mayor, Alan Ruiz.
Casares, together with the head of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, has traveled to Tresviso in the helicopter that the body in the community shares with Asturias and which is one of the main capacities for mountain interventions.
The delegate has praised the importance of the presence of the Civil Guard throughout the regional territory and especially “the capacities of the body to reach any town or municipality” as is the case of Tresviso, which is located at almost 1,000 meters of altitude and is located in its entirety in the Picos de Europa National Park.
“The Civil Guard does an essential job with the GREIM in the rescue work in high mountain areas but also with the ROCA Team helping those who live in small and depopulated municipalities, offering assistance and help to elderly people,” he said.
