The Government Delegation in Cantabria will celebrate on November 24, Monday, the second Day of Gender Violence that will take place under the title ‘Unity against vicarious violence’ and will have the inaugural presentation of the prosecutor Gabriela Bravo.
Bravo, who was a member of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) (2008-2013) and Councillor for Justice, Interior and Public Administration of the Valencian Community (2015-2023), gave the lecture ‘Vicarious violence: when machismo uses childhood as a weapon’.
This inaugural lecture will take place at 10.30 a.m. after the official inauguration of the Conference by the Secretary of State for Equality and for the Eradication of Violence against Women, María Guijarro, and the government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, at 10.00 a.m.
Following the intervention of Gabriela Bravo, the Government Delegation has scheduled a legal round table to address vicarious violence from the perspective of justice and administration.
The judge of the Criminal Court number 4 of Santander, Amaya Merchán; the prosecutor dean of the Territorial Section of Torrelavega, Carlos Yáñez; and the director of the Institute of Legal Medicine of Cantabria, Pilar Guillém, will speak at this table.
Merchán will address the advances and challenges in judicial protection in cases of vicarious violence and will emphasize the usefulness of the Gesell Room as a procedural guarantee for children, while Yáñez will analyze the role of the Prosecutor’s Office in the protection of minors victims of vicarious violence.
For her part, the director of the Institute of Legal Medicine will discuss the importance of forensic assessment units to determine the harm and protection of minors who are victims of vicarious violence.
As a whole, this round table seeks to address the role of the judiciary, prosecution and forensic medicine in the institutional response to vicarious violence and to pay special attention to the use of the Gesell Room to protect children.
The II Conference on Gender Violence of the Government Delegation in Cantabria will conclude at 1 p.m. with the intervention of the head of the Unit for the Coordination of Violence on Women, Diana Mirones.
