The Government Delegation in Cantabria has scheduled several road safety awareness activities for next week on the occasion of the commemoration this Sunday, November 16, of the World Day in Remembrance of the Victims of Traffic Accidents.
For Monday, day 17, the delivery of medals of the Order to Civil Merit and the Merit of Road Safety has been organized, which will be held in the Cantabria Room of the Delegation from 9.30 a.m. and will be presided over by the Government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares.
Then, on the same day, at 10.30 a.m., the traditional rally will be held at the entrance of the institution’s headquarters, on Calvo Sotelo 25 Street, to remember the victims of traffic accidents.
In this concentration, Delegation staff, representatives of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), National Police, Civil Guard, State and Regional Roads, 112, 061, local police, Public Prosecutor’s Office for Road Safety, professional associations and members of the families and victims of traffic accidents will participate.
In addition, together with the Provincial Traffic Headquarters, an educational activity has been organized to promote awareness of road safety among the media. It is an escape room set in a traffic accident and in which the Civil Guard intervenes, as well as toilets, firefighters and civilian personnel.
The activity, which will take place at the DGT’s facilities in Herrera de Camargo, includes the time interval from the time a traffic accident takes place to the 60 minutes after, since that time is considered the key period for a quick and efficient intervention and to make the difference between life and death in a road accident.
Also, within the framework of this week of activities, the Government Delegation and the Traffic Headquarters will deliver kits to the municipalities of Santander and Piélagos to perform drug tests on drivers through their local police.
The government delegate has stressed the importance of promoting awareness of road safety throughout the population, as well as educating on what should be done in the face of a traffic accident under the basic premises of the PAS protocol: protect, warn and help.
“Coinciding with the day in memory of the victims of traffic accidents, the Government Delegation has programmed a series of activities to recognize those who intervene and help, remember the victims and promote knowledge about how to act in the face of a road accident,” added Casares.
