- The government delegate in Cantabria has visited the facilities of this agency in Santander together with its director, Sofía Muriedas
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, highlighted the work that is being carried out in the Provincial Delegation of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in Cantabria, which has 44 public employees who are responsible for the management and collection of information necessary for the preparation of statistical operations.
On Monday, Casares visited the facilities of this autonomous administrative body, attached to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through the State Secretariat of Economy and Finance.

The State representative has visited the offices of the INE in Cantabria, located in Concepción Arenal Street in Santander, together with its provincial director, Sofía Muriedas.
Casares has praised that the staff of the Cantabrian delegation of the INE is responsible, among other matters, for the management and maintenance of the Electoral Census, the coordination and management of the municipal register.
It is also responsible for the production of numerous highly relevant statistics such as the Active Population Survey (EPA), Family Budgets (EPF), Consumer Price Index (CPI), the Hotel and Extra-Hotel Occupancy Survey or the Hospital Morbidity Survey.
From the agency in Cantabria, the government delegate has pointed out that data are also collected on the natural movement of the population, with the registration of information on births, deaths or marriages.
“Among its most fundamental tasks are the coordination of the management of municipal registers, detecting errors and duplications and advising municipalities for their correction; and also being the body in charge of the Electoral Census Office,” said Casares.
In this regard, he pointed out that the workers of the INE are responsible for keeping the census of the autonomous community updated and attending to the electoral processes that are convened.
Along with this, Sofía Muriedas has praised the high percentage of vote CERA (Census of Spanish Residents Absent) that exists in Cantabria, with about 43,000 Cantabrians residing abroad.
