• The works are aimed at repairing, settling and providing permanent protection to the areas that run in slope next to the track platform, which will improve the reliability and quality of the circulations.
• The Ministry, through Adif, has invested more than 8 million euros in the last year in similar actions in the metric wide network in Cantabria.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has litigated for an amount of 7.3 million euros (VAT included) a contract, through Adif, for the stabilization of the slopes near the railway line between the Treto station and the Udalla roadway, specifically between the kilometric points 573/510 and 585/200 of the Bilbao La Concordia – Santander line, in the Cantabria wide metric network.
The objective of this action is to repair, settle and provide permanent protection to the areas that run in the slope, parallel to the tracks, and that may be affected by rains and other adverse weather factors.
This action will result in the improvement of the reliability and quality of railway circulations.
The work will begin with the removal of the existing mesh to be able to carry out the weeding, deburring and, if necessary, felling of trees next to the track. In addition, the healing of potentially unstable material and blocks will be performed. Finally, the protection work of the entire area will be carried out, through the placement of triple twisted metal meshes.
Other similar investments of the Ministry in Cantabria
The Ministry has recently invested more than 8 million euros in works to improve the reliability and protection of the road platform in the metric wide network of Cantabria, executed by Adif.
Currently, reinforcement and stability of slopes are under way in several sections of the Santander-Cabezón de la Sal line, specifically in the Golbardo area and on the route between Casar de Periedo and San Pedro de Rudagüera.
The actions, framed in the plan of renewal and maintenance of the conventional network, contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which promotes reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures.
Government’s commitment to infrastructure in Cantabria
In this context, it is worth noting the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to improving mobility and infrastructure in Cantabria. As a sign of this:
- The Council of Ministers recently approved an investment of 41.5 million euros for the first railway integration works in Santander.
- Related to this, a few weeks ago the Government gave the green light to the signing of the agreement to cover the railway track in Maliaño for 14 million euros, of which Adif will finance 50% and will be responsible for its execution.
- In the field of urban mobility, in July, works to improve the mobility of pedestrians and bicycles on the N-611 and N-623 crossings in Santander were awarded for another 11.42 million euros.
- In terms of roads, it is worth noting the commissioning at the end of July of the Nudo de Torrelavega, which has had an investment of more than 160 million.
- Or the works under way for about another 114 million euros for the improvement of the Gorge of La Hermida on the N-621 road.
