• The government delegate in Cantabria met with the mayor of Polanco, Rosa Díaz
• He has highlighted that the State is investing more than one million euros in other actions in the municipality, such as improving the crossing of the N-611
The Government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, transferred this Wednesday to the mayor of Polanco, Rosa Díaz, the commitment to expedite the work on the link of the A-67 in the municipality, framed in the work of the third lane developed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, to "conclude it before the summer of 2026".
In particular, Casares has detailed that the actions planned in the junction of the A-67 in Polanco will be prioritized and that include the construction of a branch of extension of the motorway that will give access to the municipality, with an extension of half a kilometer, and a roundabout.
“We believe that these actions can be completed before the summer,” said the government delegate after the meeting with the mayor, in which the head of the State Road Demarcation in Cantabria, Rosendo Martínez, also participated.
The government delegate has pointed out that, once these works are completed at the Polanco link, traffic in the area will improve, reducing the “traffic jams and detentions” that are currently registered, and also improving road safety.
Casares has explained that these detentions in the area of the motorway in Polanco began to be registered after the implementation of the Sierrapando-Barreda continuity branch at the end of July, whose traffic comes just at the height of this municipality in which the construction work of the third lane of the A-67 to Santa Cruz de Bezana is being developed.
These retentions have been taking place mostly during the summer and, therefore, before the arrival of the next summer season, they are going to “accelerate the works” in that route of the A-67 at the height of Polanco. “The commitment we have is to try to have that performance finished before the summer of 2026,” he said.
The government delegate stressed that this action on the link of the A-67 in Polanco is part of “a very important work” such as the execution of the third lane of the motorway between that municipality and Santa Cruz de Bezana and that it will involve a global investment of 173 million euros from the Ministry of Transport.
At the meeting, Casares also addressed with the councilor other investments that the State is carrying out in the surroundings of Polanco to meet "important and historical demands" of the municipality and that exceed one million euros of investment.
Thus, the crossing of the N-611 in Polanco is being improved, with the improvement of the road, the reduction of the width of the road to calm traffic, the extension of the roadsides or the elevation of pedestrian crossings to improve safety. In addition, we are currently working on the asphalt of the whole firm of the crossing.
Also, in Requejada, some 300,000 euros have been invested in the settlement of the N-611 firm as it passes through the town, in a stretch of more than one and a half kilometers.
The government delegate considered that the meeting was a “fruitful” meeting with which it has been evidenced that “with the dialogue between the different institutions we advance for the good of Cantabria and the municipality of Polanco”.
In the same vein, the mayor, Rosa Díaz, has spoken, thanking her for giving “priority” to the link of the A-67 in the municipality. “We were very happy with the meeting and with the solutions that have been put on the table,” he said.
