Casares has made this visit accompanied by the Mayor of Torrelavega, Javier López Estrada, the Councilor for Equality, Environment and Celebration, Patricia Portilla as well as the Superior Chief of the National Police in Cantabria, Carmen Martínez and the Chief Commissioner of the National Police in Torrelavega, Fernando Chemenal.
During his speech to the media, the government delegate in Cantabria said that “Cantabria and Torrelavega are a safe region and a safe city”.
For Casares, “the data reinforce the idea that the crime rate of serious and minor crimes is falling in Torrelavega, as well as sex crimes that in the last year have been reduced by 30%.”
“These are the figures and we will continue working to reduce these crime rates as much as we can,” he said.
On the specific reinforcement plan prepared by the National Police for the festivities of Torrelavega, he pointed out that “we have all the troops of the National Police”.
In particular, for this device, Casares has highlighted the presence since today, in the proclamation, of the Air Unit of the National Police, the helicopter and the drones, with the Cavalry Unit, the Prevention and Reaction Unit, the Canine Guides Unit, the Operational Response Group and the Citizen Attention Group.
He also highlighted the presence of local agents “in this work of prevention and response”.
The government delegate has valued as “significant” the reinforcement during the festivities “which in some moments will mean a 100% reinforcement of the usual staff of the National Police in Torrelavega.
“Torrelavega is a safe city and it will also be during these holidays, he has said at the same time that he has made an appeal to the civic behavior of the citizens.”
For Casares, “if Cantabria is one of the safest regions in Spain and the world and to a large extent that is thanks to the extraordinary work of the State Security Forces and Corps”.

As during the Semana Grande de Santander, it will be arranged in a timely manner with the Special Unit of Cavalry and the Air Unit of the Police (helicopter and drones), which due to their specific characteristics offer a plus in the preventive work and collaboration with the other units, being a key day for them the day of the celebration of the proclamation of the beginning of the festivities that will take place in the Boulevard Demetrio Herrero where there will be an important agglomeration of people.
Special attention will be paid to areas with a nocturnal environment, increasing police presence and active prevention, with a comprehensive security device.

From the Higher Police Headquarters of Cantabria, on the occasion of these patron saint’s festivities, it is recommended that the entire population adopt the following safety guidelines with the aim of avoiding being victims of theft crimes, preventing risk situations:
o In the leisure areas and public establishments, always keep your belongings in sight (bag, backpack, wallet, mobile phone, jacket, etc., and remember not to forget them on the counter, bar, table, chairs, or in the toilet.
o If you use a bag or backpack, make sure that it is properly closed and visible at all times, if possible carry the bag across the front.
o Keep your purse, wallet, mobile in a safe place, never carry them in your back pocket or in a place easily accessible to the friends of others.
o Do not carry the PIN of the credit/debit card noted on the card, and set keys that are not easily recognizable (do not put 1234, or date of birth).
o Whether the crime has been committed, or if the victim has managed to avoid it with her own attitude, communicate as soon as possible what happened to the National Police on telephone 091 providing all the information that it is possible to remember about the event, physical characteristics, direction of flight, registration if it has been committed in a vehicle number of people, etc….
