The delegate of the Government of Spain in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has made an institutional visit to the municipality of Peñarrubia, where she has held a meeting with the mayor, Seconino Caso, to address various issues of local interest related to infrastructure, road safety and mobility.
During the visit, both authorities highlighted the good pace of execution of the improvement works in the gorge of La Hermida, a key action for the structuring of the Region of Liébana, executed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility with an investment of more than 70 million euros.
These works, framed in the improvement of the N-621 road, represent the largest investment made in this road and contemplate the expansion of platforms, the improvement of routes, the construction of new structures and measures of protection against landslides, in an environment of great technical complexity and high environmental value.
The mayor has conveyed to the delegate the need to undertake the settlement of the sidewalk in the urban section of La Hermida, where problems of rot have been detected in some tables. It has also requested measures to reduce the speed of vehicles, such as the lifting of pedestrian crossings by means of badges, with the aim of improving the safety of neighbours and visitors.
In addition, Caso has proposed that the esplanade currently used by construction trucks as a parking area be conditioned, once the works are finished, as a small public parking. "It is an opportunity for a temporary space to become a useful and lasting infrastructure for the municipality," said the councilor.
For his part, Gómez de Diego has valued the proposals positively and has committed to transfer them to the corresponding technical services for analysis. He also stressed the importance of state investment in the Desfiladero, stressing that "it is a clear sign of the commitment of the Government of Spain to the infrastructures that connect and dynamize the rural environment of Cantabria".
