The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation reinforces its commitment to the protection and improvement of the state of the rivers and waters of the basin. To this end, in 2025 it intensifies the control over the discharges that reach our rivers and channels.
With the review of analytical controls. Companies and entities that have authorization to pour water must periodically analyze their discharges and submit the results to the Confederation. These analyses are performed by accredited laboratories (ECAH). Thus, it is verified that they comply with the limits established in their authorizations.
In addition to on-site inspections and sampling. Environmental agents visit the facility to directly sample discharges and river water, both upstream and downstream of the point of discharge. This makes it possible to check on the ground whether the limits are being respected and whether the spill affects the river.
In 2025, priority is given to discharges that affect rivers or bodies of water that are not in good condition, although discharges in areas in good condition are also reviewed to prevent them from deteriorating. Special attention is paid to unauthorized discharges and to those with greater environmental risk.
The objective is clear: to ensure strict control of discharges to protect water quality and comply with environmental regulations. The Confederation acts firmly to ensure that limits are respected and irregular situations are corrected.
These works will be applied in Asturias, Cantabria, Burgos and Navarra. In 2025, 291 discharges will be reviewed and 47 inspections will be made with sampling, prioritizing the most important cases.
