The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation begins maintenance, conservation and improvement works in the Borroñal stream, in the vicinity of Hinojedo, in the municipality of Suances. These actions are carried out with the aim of improving the composition and structure of the vegetation of the stream and of removing obstructive elements from the riverbed.
Accumulations of vegetable remains and fallen trees of large dimensions, as well as some trees with a risk of falling, are found in several points of the Borroñal stream. In addition, accumulations of anthropogenic waste have been located, which could cause blockages in certain points of the Borroñal stream’s riverbed.
The works have an approximate investment of 50 100 € and will be carried out manually in 4.2 km of the stream.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
In the year 2024, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways in Cantabria was 1.46 million euros, distributed in 68 actions in 41 municipalities.
