The Government, on the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, has approved at the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, the distribution to Cantabria of 547,066 euros for families for the acquisition of textbooks and didactic material.
In total, the autonomous communities will receive 58,559,610 euros for textbooks and didactic material. To these funds must be added the 1.4 million euros that are allocated to this program in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. In 2018 this program had a funding of 48.5 million euros and in 2022 it increased to the current 58.5 million. In total, the Ministry has invested 380 million euros in this aid.
The objective is to help families in the acquisition of textbooks and teaching materials in all kinds of media, including digital media, to compensate for the most unfavourable socio-economic situations and to help the educational system guarantee equity in education and equal rights and opportunities.
Specifically, the grants are aimed at students of Primary Education and Compulsory Secondary Education in centres supported with public funds. The communities will be able to allocate part of the funds for grants for Baccalaureate and Vocational Training students.
The calculation of the distribution of these funds has taken into account the poverty risk rate of each community and the number of students enrolled in Primary Education and ESO, including those of Basic VET, plus students of Baccalaureate, Middle Grade and Higher Grade, of centers supported with public funds.
