The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, visited this Friday the works of the parking deterrent of La Carmencita, in Torrelavega, in which the Government of Spain contributes 1.7 million euros through the European funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resistance Plan.
"It is a pleasure to be here today, in Torrelavega, to see at first hand the progress of an important project for the city: the construction of the parking deterrent in La Carmencita," said Gómez de Diego, at the beginning of the visit he made with the mayor of the city, Javier López Marcano; the councilor for Works, José Luis Urraca, and the councilor for Development, Robero Media.
The action, which has a total investment of 4.6 million - 1.7 million euros by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility -, is part of a global strategy to reduce the use of private vehicles in the urban center and promote public transport.
The delegate stressed that the Government of Pedro Sánchez "continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmentally friendly mobility and a city model designed for people." In this regard, he recalled that the Executive has approved grants totalling 3.6 million euros to continue advancing the transformation of Torrelavega into a modern and accessible city.
Likewise, Gómez de Diego has highlighted other strategic investments promoted by the Government of Spain in the region, such as the launch this summer of the new section of the A-67 Motorway, the extension to three lanes of this road and the subway of the railway station, projects that, he said, will mark "a before and an after" in the connectivity and modernization of the city.
"Torrelavega is already becoming a benchmark in which other municipalities can be seen," said Gómez de Diego, who has cited other "great projects" that will allow it to be a city "better connected" and with a "friendlier, healthier" environment, objectives for which he has ratified the commitment of the Government of Spain.

The high-rise car park of La Carmencita de Torrelavega, with 654 parking spaces, will be operational in the first week of April and will be freely accessible during the first three months as a test. In that period, the City Council will study based on its use if it is necessary to apply some type of regulation, although in any case it will be a free parking.
The objective of this hypothetical regulation would be to ensure the rotation of vehicles and prevent some from being parked for several days, although the experience with other spaces in the city indicates that it will not be necessary.
This infrastructure has 544 interior spaces distributed over four floors --ground floor, with 130; more first, with 137; second, with another 137; and third, with 140--, to which 110 exterior spaces are added. At its perimeter, "approximately 1,500 meters" of green area have been generated where 39 trees have been planted to create a "plant screen" around the structure.
