The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, celebrated the progress in two key projects for the future of Torrelavega and the Besaya region such as the construction of the future biomass plant of Solvay and the rehabilitation of La Lechera, highlighting the "undoubted contribution" of the Government of Spain to both initiatives, "proof of its commitment to the city and to Cantabria".
In relation to the Solvay project, Gómez de Diego said that the confirmation of the investment in the Barreda factory is "great news" and highlighted the firm support of the central executive, remembering that the company has received assistance of 30.1 million euros from the Ministry of Industry through the European funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
In addition, he stressed the importance of the approval by the Ministry for Ecological Transition of the new formula of the multiplier coefficient of energy savings by the reduction of CO2 emissions, "a key mechanism for the financing of the new biomass cogeneration plant".
“The Government of Spain is demonstrating its commitment to a more sustainable and competitive industry, ensuring the future of hundreds of jobs in our community,” said the delegate, who recalled the visits of the Ministers of Industry, Jordi Hereu, and Energy Transition, Sara Aagesen, to the plant.
On the other hand, regarding the rehabilitation of La Lechera, Gómez de Diego highlighted the contribution of the central government with 2.2 million euros transferred by the Ministry of Housing also from European funds, contributing to the transformation of this space into a cultural and museum reference within the PIREP program, which also finances other projects such as the rehabilitation of the Provincial Historical Archive for its conversion into a municipal library of Santander, the recovery of the former Chamber of Commerce of Torrelavega or the modernization of the Sports Center of Ostende Peru Zaballa in Castro Urdiales.
"This government believes in Torrelavega and demonstrates this with deeds," he said. Gómez de Diego insisted that "these investments are tangible proof that the Government of Spain not only complies with Cantabria, but is driving its transformation towards a more prosperous, modern and sustainable future." "This government invests, protects employment, strengthens culture and guarantees the progress of our land," he concluded.
