Adif has awarded the works of suppression of five steps at the level of the metric width network in the Cantabrian municipalities of Riotuerto (line Orejo-Liérganes) and Reocín (line Oviedo-Santander), with an investment of 5.52 million euros. The action, integrated into the Proximity Plan of Cantabria, will increase the reliability and safety conditions of transport infrastructures for pedestrians and rail and road traffic.
In the municipality of Riotuerto, four level steps will be eliminated through the construction of two upper steps for the transit of vehicles and pedestrians, with an investment of 2.77 million euros. One of these new upper steps will be located in the environment of the current step at the p.k. level. 6/108. The other will be located about 800 meters from the pass of p.k.7/224 and will have a vial that will connect with the road that runs parallel to the river Miera, with which it connects with the road La Cavada-Rucandio and three other roads that link with existing vials.
The solution tendered for the abolition of the Reocín crossing, awarded for 2.75 million euros, will be the construction of a pedestrian walkway on the road and the execution of a new road north of the railway line, which connects two roads.
The works include the adaptation of safety facilities and the replacement of railway communications and other services, as well as the installation of a new enclosure once the steps have been eliminated.
These actions contribute to the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Health and Welfare), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
