The Council of Ministers has today authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender for 15.3 million euros (VAT not included), through Adif, the works to rehabilitate and modernize the road between Mataporquera and Torrelavega, included in the conventional railway line Palencia-Santander and in part of the C-1 line of the Vicinity of Cantabria.
The stretch has a length of 79 km along which eight stations and ten roadblocks are located.
The performance includes the renovation of lanes and crossings of several sections of the route, as well as the replacement of detours at the stations of Lantueno, Pesca, Cobejo, Bárcena and Las Fraguas. The contract includes both the works and the materials necessary for the works.
With this intervention, included in the Proximity Plan of Cantabria, the overall performance of the infrastructure will be improved with a higher rolling quality for the circulations, in addition to contributing to the regularity, safety and improvement of the railway service in the aforementioned section, which in turn will favor the connection between Cantabria and the Central Plateau.
This action between Mataporquera and Torrelavega, reinforces the works of renovation of the track and replacement of elements and detours that were carried out on the same path in a first phase.
Other improvements included in the contract
Within the framework of this contract, the firm of nine steps at level will be replaced by rubber modules that favor the crossing of the track. In addition, the track and the superstructure of the metal bridge will be rehabilitated on this path, which means modifications that require complementary electrification actions that adapt to the new track configuration. To do this, the poles that need it will be replaced, porticoes and semi-mortals will be raised, brackets will be installed and anchors, or insulators, among other elements of the air line of contact (catenary) will be installed.
Also, the renovation of security and communications facilities will be carried out, which includes the lifting and replacement of track circuits, needles, axle counters, beacons and light signals.
Related to all these works, the Ministry has already carried out and is carrying out various actions aimed at improving the railway infrastructure of Cantabria (integral renovations of the track, improvements in signalling and electrification, suppression of level crossings, duplication of track, etc. ), to improve both the performance of the Neighbourhoods network and the connections with Palencia and Madrid.
In addition, they contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 9 (reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure) and 11 (sustainable cities and communities).
