The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, and the mayor of Valderredible, Fernando Fernández, together with Colonel Antonio Orantos, visited this Wednesday the new Weapons Intervention Service that the Civil Guard has launched in the quartering of Polientes.
The initiative responds to the institutional commitment to the fight against depopulation and the demographic challenge, seeking to bring essential public services closer to the most remote and sparsely populated territories.
This new service will meet the needs of administrative control of weapons and explosives of Valderredible, a municipality that encompasses 53 population centers with a demographic density of barely 3.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. In addition, Polientes provides coverage to neighboring towns such as Rozas de Valdearroyo, Valdeolea, Valdeprado del Río and Polaciones, where a total of 470 weapons, associated licenses and companies linked to the sector are registered.
Gómez de Diego stressed that "this effort reflects the commitment of the Government of Spain to territorial cohesion, bringing essential services closer to rural areas and facilitating the lives of those who reside in them." He also stressed that the number of personnel of the State Security Forces and Corps in Cantabria continues to increase, which already reaches 1,733 agents, 6.1% more since Pedro Sánchez assumed the presidency of the Government.
In this context, the delegate has also recognized the work of the ROCA teams, which carry out specific prevention and follow-up tasks in rural areas. "The opening of this new service and the work of the ROCA teams are clear examples of how the Civil Guard adapts to respond to the specific needs of our territory," he added.
Weapons License Management
The service will be carried out in person in the quartering of Polientes with a fortnightly periodicity, coinciding with the day of greatest influx of neighbors to the nucleus. The service will be carried out by personnel of the Reinosa Weapons and Explosives Intervention, with the aim of facilitating access to the management of licenses and related procedures in a region characterized by its geographical dispersion and remoteness from the main urban centers.
The opening of this new service is part of the measures promoted by the Ministry of the Interior to bring the resources of the Civil Guard closer to the most remote localities and contribute to the revitalization of rural areas of Cantabria.
Prior to the visit to the quartering, the delegate of the Government and the mayor of Valderredible have held a meeting at the headquarters of the City Council, where they have reviewed investments that the Government of Spain is executing in the municipality.
