The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has valued "very positively" the announcement of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, on the award of the project of the link of Nogales de Pisuerga, which will connect the high-speed line between Palencia and Alar del Rey, currently under construction, with Cantabria. This action, awarded by 1.4 million euros, reinforces the objective of advancing in three years the arrival of high speed in the Cantabrian capital.
Gómez de Diego highlighted that "this announcement is great news for Cantabria and confirms, once again, the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to the development of our infrastructures". According to him, the award is "a decisive step to advance this project that will transform the communications of our community".
In this regard, he stressed the difference between "the abandonment of the previous PP Government in railway matters and the investment effort of the current Executive, which has not only reactivated a fundamental project for Cantabria, but is also fulfilling the commitment to advance its execution". The delegate recalled that, under the mandate of President Pedro Sánchez, the works of four of the five sections planned for the high-speed connection are already under way, while progress is being made in the drafting of the project of the last section, which will connect with Reinosa.
"We will continue to work with determination so that this project, together with the improvements in the Neighbourhoods network, configure a modern, sustainable mobility that is in line with the demands of Cantabria," he said.
Finally, Gómez de Diego has highlighted the economic and social benefits that the arrival of high speed will entail, not only improving the connectivity of the region with the rest of the country and strengthening its competitiveness and tourist attraction, but also generating employment and economic dynamization during the different phases of implementation.
"The announcement of the Ministry of Transport responds to the will to speed up the execution of this infrastructure, which will represent a qualitative leap in the mobility of Cantabria and its integration into the high-speed network," he concluded.
