The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has published six new thematic viewers to improve the transparency and accessibility of the information used in the preparation of hydrological plans 2022-2027. This new digital tool covers the hydrographic demarcations of the Western Cantabrian and the Spanish part of the Eastern Cantabrian.
The six viewers are structured in three categories for each demarcation:
General information: It includes cartography on lithology, land uses, water resources, demands, water masses, ecological flows and resource allocation.
State and environmental objectives: It provides data on the targets set for each body of water, pressures and impacts, state of surface and groundwater, and monitoring and control networks.
Protected areas: It contains information on catchments, hydrological reserves, wet areas, sections of interest and other protected areas such as ZECs, ZEPAs and bathing areas.
Improvements in transparency and accessibility
These new viewers update the information of the third cycle of hydrological planning, in addition to data that were not previously publicly available, such as the information layers of the IMPRES (Inventory of Pressures and Impacts). The initiative seeks to provide a useful tool both for professionals in the sector and for society interested in water management. The viewers are available on the Agency ' s official website, allowing easy and direct access to all available hydrological information for hydrological planning.
This measure represents a significant step towards a more transparent and participatory management of water resources in the basins of the Bay of Biscay, in line with the European directives on access to environmental information. Also, in order to make this information accessible to citizens who are not used to the use of geographical viewers, a document has been prepared. Cartographic Atlas with the most relevant information of the Third Cycle Hydrological Plan.
