The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, participated this Wednesday in the solidarity campaign of blood extraction organized by the Civil Guard in collaboration with the Brotherhood of Blood Donors.
The initiative, which seeks to promote solidarity and contribute to meeting the demand for blood products in hospitals, has been developed in units of the Campogiro Santander Watershed, where agents, workers and citizens have had the opportunity to join this altruistic cause.
Gómez de Diego, who has been accompanied by the chief colonel of the Civil Guard in Cantabria, Antonio Orantos, has highlighted the importance of this type of joint action to sensitize the population about the need to donate blood on a regular basis and thus guarantee health care.
"Thanks to the collaboration between institutions, we make it possible for altruistic acts such as blood donation to have a real impact. Donating blood is not only a generous act, but also a direct way to save lives," he said.
Likewise, the delegate wanted to highlight the role of the Civil Guard as "an institution at the service of society, not only in the field of security, but also through its support in solidarity initiatives".
The Brotherhood of Blood Donors has thanked all participants for their involvement, remembering that each donation can save up to three lives and that the blood donated is vital for surgical interventions and medical treatments.
Collaboration agreement
This campaign is part of the collaboration agreement that the Civil Guard of Cantabria maintains with the Marqués de Valdecilla Foundation and the Brotherhood of Blood Donors.
The agreement allows the Civil Guard to facilitate the dissemination and promotion of blood donation through the use of its facilities, the mobilization of its personnel and the cession of appropriate spaces for collections.
In addition, it provides that, on agreed dates, the mobile unit of the Blood and Tissue Bank of Cantabria accesses the premises of the Civil Guard to carry out extractions directed both to its agents and to the general public.
