The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, presided this Saturday in Santander the celebrations in honor of the Virgen del Pilar, patron of the Civil Guard, where she praised the work of this Body in our Autonomous Community, one of the safest regions of Spain.
In his speech, Gómez de Diego stressed that "Spain is one of the safest countries in the world and Cantabria is among the autonomous communities with the lowest crime rate, ten points below the national average."
The delegate recalled the incorporation of 42 new civil guards in practices in the region, in the framework of an increase in personnel at the national level that has allowed to exceed 156,400 agents, the highest figure in the history of the State Security Forces and Corps. "The Government has reversed the loss of personnel recorded between 2012 and 2018," he said, noting that Cantabria currently has 87 more agents than in 2018.
Likewise, Gómez de Diego has highlighted the effort of the Executive to improve the means and resources of the Civil Guard, with the renewal of vehicles and the provision of new boats for the Provincial Maritime Service, such as the "Trueba River".
He also mentioned the improvement in the infrastructure of the Cabezón de la Sal and Reinosa cantonments, as well as the use of technological tools such as the ALERTCOPS application, which allows citizens to request help or intervene in real time.
During her speech, the delegate highlighted the work of the Civil Traffic Guard, which this year celebrates its 65th anniversary, and recalled the 35th anniversary of the incorporation of women into the body. In this regard, he highlighted the presence of a squad of spenders made up entirely of women, "a pride for the Cantabrian Command".
Finally, Gómez de Diego wanted to recognize the work of the agents deployed in international missions, making a special mention to those who are in Lebanon, and expressed his gratitude to the members of the body for their "commitment, dedication and dedication" in the protection of citizens.

The Cantabrian Civil Guard Area Quartering in Santander has been the venue for the event in honor of the Patron of this Corps. The celebration was presided over by the Delegate of the Government of Spain in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez, together with the Colonel Chief of the Civil Guard Area, Antonio Orantos.
After the incorporation of the National Flag to the formation, the act began with the imposition of 22 decorations to the Military Merit and the Merit of the Civil Guard.
In this imposition, the Magistrate Judge of the Court of Instruction number 2 of Santander, Miguel Ángel Agüeros, the Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, Jesús Ángel Alaña, a Lieutenant of Navío and a Chief Inspector of the National Police of Santander were recognized.
The rest of the winners were 18 members of the Civil Guard Area of Cantabria, recognizing the work and professional trajectory of 2 officers, 2 non-commissioned officers and 14 guards.
Before the speeches of the Delegate of the Government and the Colonel Chief, the Santiago Cultural Association gave an orphan of the Civil Guard financial aid.
During the ceremony, a heartfelt tribute was paid to the civil guards of all time who served with sacrifice and loyalty, and who gave their lives for Spain.
After the anthem of the Civil Guard was sung, the formation withdrew to begin a parade, in which a squad of spenders, a section of rifles and a section of specialties formed by personnel of Citizen Security, Traffic Sector, Maritime Service, Nature Protection Service, Fiscal Service and Cinological Service participated.
