The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, together with the chief colonel of the Civil Guard Zone in this Autonomous Community, Antonio Orantos, and other commanders of this Body have welcomed in the Quartering of the Civil Guard Zone of Cantabria, the 42 student guards in practice, who begin to serve in citizen security units.
The civil guards in practices that from today they serve in Cantabria, are destined to citizen security posts of the five Territorial Companies in which the demarcation of this Area is divided, strengthening the services, with special incidence, in the populations of the so-called demographic challenge.
The Government delegate has highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to continue promoting better staff, which are now the most numerous for years. “The Government of Spain is committed to the essential public service such as security and the first thing has been to reverse the loss of personnel that occurred in the period 2012-2018 and exceed the record that had been reached in 2011. Gómez de Diego recalled that last June a new offer of public employment was approved that will allow 2,721 other student guards to be incorporated into the training centers, the highest figure since 2009, once the competitive examination process is completed.
In Cantabria, the incorporation of these guards will mean that the coverage of the citizen security units of the Civil Guard of Cantabria reaches 95.96%, in addition to an increase of 24 guards compared to the students who joined last year who were 18.
These civil guard trainees will continue their training in Cantabria for a period of 40 weeks.
Media improvements
During the year 2024 and within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, work has been carried out to improve energy efficiency in the quartering areas of Cabezón de la Sal and Reinosa, reaching an investment figure of 3,163,109.75 euros.
Also, among other improvements in material means, it is worth highlighting the renewal of the vehicle park of the Civil Guard, a renewal process that covers and persists during the current year 2024, 75% of the electric vehicles incorporated into that mobile park being less than two years old.
In addition, in 2023 the Provincial Maritime Service of Cantabria was equipped with a new boat, the “Río Trueba”, boat of 22 meters length and 800 miles of autonomy and this year, the deployment of boats of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of Cantabria was expanded with a new boat with base port in Laredo.
The use of SIGO Mobility has been consolidated, allowing the Citizen Security Units in service to carry out on-site procedures and consultations of police interest, thus contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of response capacities in the field of public security and in the same way, the use of prevention, security and assistance capabilities of the mobile application ALERTCOPS, launched by the Secretary of State for Security, an instant communication tool that allows throughout the national territory, request assistance or police intervention, inform in real time about the occurrence of a criminal event as a victim or witness, as well as minors.
