The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun work to improve the river continuity of the Llares in the vicinity of the town of Cohiño, in the municipality of Arenas de Iguña. Fish passage devices will be eliminated with the aim of improving the continuity of the river habitat and making possible the migratory movements of the fish fauna present in the river of the Llares. These actions, with an initial budget of 60 000 €, are financed from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
In the immediate vicinity of the town of Cohiño, two of the fish passage devices that this organism built in 2022 to permeabilize the defense structures of the river of the Llares present a barefoot that has generated a jump, hindering the ascent of the fish. This barefoot has been caused by the movements of the material from the river bed itself.
The actions consist of the prolongation and shortening of the affected aquaculture ramps, until reaching the level of consolidation of the bed.
These works are carried out through the public company Tragsa, within the program of river recovery and improvement of continuity in the scope of the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation.
In the year 2023 the investment made in works of recovery and improvement of the river continuity in Cantabria was of 764 thousand euros, distributed in 8 actions in 7 municipalities
