The Civil Guard presented this morning at the IES La Albericia de Santander the VI CYBERLEAGUE that organizes this Body at the national level, in which for the first time students of the 4th year of the ESO of this Autonomous Community will participate.
With this challenging activity, the Civil Guard aims to raise awareness among young students about the safe and responsible use of new technologies, as well as to enhance talent in the field of cybersecurity.
Through a competition, participants will face a series of cyber-challenges that will simulate real situations that can be found when browsing the Net, for example, analysis of photographs to know if they have been manipulated, unmasking fake profiles on social networks or collecting digital evidence with open use tools.
The presentation of the CYBERLEAGUE was attended by the Delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez, the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Universities of the Cantabrian Government, Sergio Silva, the Colonel Chief of the Area of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, Antonio Jesús Orantos Miguez, and the Lieutenant Colonel of the Technical Cabinet of the General Directorate of the Civil Guard, José Luis González.
The CYBERLEAGUE in Cantabria
From September 16 to October 4, the different teams of the Secondary Education Institutes (IES) of Cantabria can register in the “VI CYBERLEAGUE Civil Guard” in the pre-amateur modality, having this possibility, the more than 6,000 students who study 4th year of the ESO, in the 91 Secondary Education Institutes (IES) of Cantabria. The teams will preferably be made up of four students.
The registration procedure will be carried out through the official platform of the competition, as well as the other activities to be carried out within the framework of the qualifying and final phases. The access link to the aforementioned platform is as follows: https://ligagc.com/
The registered teams will participate in a qualifying phase that will take place in the week of October 7 to 11, 2024. This phase will be developed on-line, receiving a training prior to the competition. In some of the HEIs, previously selected by the Ministry of Education, there will be the presence of experts from the Civil Guard in the field, who will provide the training in person and that same day the challenges will be developed.
To solve the challenges, the participants must use all their skills, working as a team and putting into practice the lessons received, especially in the training action that takes place prior to the competition.
Those teams that obtain the three best scores will participate in the final phase of the competition that will be held, from March 10 to 14, 2025, at the University Center of the Civil Guard, located in the town of Aranjuez (Madrid).
VI edition of the CYBERLEAGUE
This initiative began in 2019, with a first edition in the amateur modality, aimed at university and vocational students, to enhance the talent of these as future professions in the field of cybersecurity. This same proposal continued in 2020 with a second edition.
In the third and fourth edition (years 2021 and 2022), the professional modality was implemented, aimed at police agents and the field of defense, with the objective of increasing police capacities for response and investigation in the face of cybercrime.
The fifth edition (year 2023) implemented the pre-ameteur modality, for 4th year students of ESO, with a pilot project in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Castilla la Mancha and Galicia.
In the sixth edition (2024), in addition to continuing with the amateur and professional modalities of the security forces, the pre-amateur is consolidated, increasing to nine the Autonomous Communities in which the students of 4th of the ESO will demonstrate their skills and knowledge. In addition to the Autonomous Communities of the year 2023, this year Cantabria, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Navarre join.
