The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, on Wednesday praised the work of the National Police during the celebration of the Day of the Holy Angels Custodians, patron of the body, highlighting its contribution to maintaining Cantabria as one of the safest communities in the country.
During the event held at the Círculo de Recreo de Torrelavega, Gómez de Diego pointed out that the crime rate in Cantabria is ten points below the national average, which, in his opinion, is the result of the "professionalism and work" of the agents. "Spain is one of the 25 safest countries in the world and Cantabria is among the safest communities in Spain," he said.
The delegate also highlighted the "firm commitment" of the agents to defend life, guarantee security and protect the rights and freedoms of citizens. He also recognized the essential role of the National Police in consolidating a "peaceful, tolerant, accessible and inclusive" model of social coexistence.
In her first speech as delegate to this festival, Gómez de Diego expressed her "pride" for the work and dedication of the agents in Cantabria, and reaffirmed her commitment to collaborate with the body "from institutional loyalty", acting as "lever and support" in its needs and improvements.
The event, which this year coincides with the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of the National Police, included the imposition of four “Crossings to Police Merit with White Badge”, one of them to personnel outside the National Police, the Local Police of the City of Torrelavega, Víctor González Tarano; and three others, to the National Police assigned to the Local Police Station of Torrelavega. In addition, five recognition plates were given to professionals outside the Institution, in gratitude for their meritorious level of collaboration with the National Police.
The event, chaired by the delegate of the Government, was attended by the Counselor of the Presidency, Justice, Security and Administrative Simplification, María Isabel Urrutia de los Mozos; the Mayor of the City of Torrelavega, Javier López Estrada; the judge of the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 2 of Torrelavega, Enrique Quintana Navarro; and the Head of the Local Commissariat of Torrelavega, Fernando Chemelal de la Riva.
The event concluded with the National Police Anthem, in an environment marked by social recognition of the work of the body.
