The Government of Spain has obtained 241 million euros in European aid to finance actions aimed at deploying an efficient and sustainable trans-European transport network through business projects of public and private entities, of which 4 are destined to the Port of Santander.
Specifically, the Port Authority of Santander will receive this amount for basic maritime infrastructure works, heel and ramp RO-RO, at the Raos 9 pier, to improve the efficiency of the Port.
In Spain, 22 initiatives validated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will receive the funds within the framework of the call of 2023 of the Mechanism Connect Europe (CEF), dedicated to the development of transport infrastructures of the network.
Of the selected projects, 15 are developed exclusively in Spain by public and private companies and seven are EU projects with Spanish participation. In particular, 13 of the 15 projects will have 208 million euros to carry out decarbonization and digitalization of transport in eight autonomous communities: Aragon, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Andalusia, La Rioja, Cantabria, Madrid and Asturias.
Within Spain, and within the framework of the line destined for the basic network, Adif has achieved 78 million euros to co-finance the electrification of the Zaragoza–Teruel-Sagunto railway section, included in the Mediterranean Corridor.
At the same time, the port authorities of Barcelona, Valencia and Gijón will receive 15, 24 and 3 million euros, respectively, which adds a total aid of 42 million euros, to electrify docks and allow ships docked in port to connect to the electricity network and turn off their auxiliary engines, advancing in the decarbonization of ports and transport.
Within the framework of the global network, four business projects have obtained 57 million euros in aid, including the four from the APS. Also the Port Authority of Almería has achieved 6 million euros for the expansion of the Pechina pier.
In addition, 28 million euros have been granted to promote the development of the multimodal logistics terminal of Sagunto, and 20 million euros have been allocated for the development of the multimodal railway terminal of Huesca.
Within the line related to safe and protected mobility, three projects will receive 17 million euros to finance the development of safe and protected parking areas in Madrid, Catalonia and La Rioja.
