The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun work on maintenance, conservation and improvement in the Fuente del Valle stream, between the towns of Rumoroso and Mar, in the municipality of Polanco.
These actions have an initial budget of about 54,500 € and are executed along 1924 m of waterway, with the aim of avoiding or reducing the risk of overflow of the stream and possible flooding of the adjacent plots. To this end, fallen or at risk of falling trees will be removed and the riverside vegetation will be adapted to maintain the drainage capacity of the riverbed. In addition, tasks will be carried out to remove sludge, invasive exotic vegetation and waste of anthropogenic origin present in the action section.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities. Until June 1, 2024, in Cantabria, the investment made in conservation and maintenance work of canals amounted to 410,079.42 euros, distributed in 31 actions in 23 municipalities.
