The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, today congratulated the EFE Agency on the 40th anniversary of the opening of its delegation in the region. During the commemorative event, which was attended by the president of EFE, Miguel Ángel Oliver, and the territorial director Maru García, Gómez de Diego highlighted the importance of quality journalistic information and commitment to rigour and good practice.
"In an era where fake news proliferates and misinformation has become a constant threat, the role of agencies like EFE is more crucial than ever," said the government delegate. “The dedication of EFE and its professionals to truthfulness and accuracy not only strengthens our right to information, but also protects the foundations of our democracy.”
The delegate has praised the relevance of the urban exhibition inaugurated today on the occasion of this anniversary and which includes the most outstanding moments in the recent history of Cantabria. "This exhibition is not only a tribute to journalistic work, but also a reminder of the positive impact that rigorous and well-documented information can have on society," said Gómez de Diego.
The delegate has reiterated her congratulations to EFE and her thanks to all the journalists who form and have been part of the Agency for four decades of information service in Cantabria. "I hope that they will continue to carry out their work with the same enthusiasm and commitment, thus contributing to a better informed and fairer society," he said.
The event, held on the Paseo Maritimo in Santander, where you can see the exhibition until August 12, has been attended by various political, cultural and social personalities, who shared their recognition of the work of EFE and its role in the autonomous community throughout these years.
Moments earlier, the delegate of the Government held a meeting at the headquarters of the institution with the president of the Agency and its territorial director, with whom she shared the need to maintain high ethical standards in journalism.
