The government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, announced today that 14,389 young people from the region have registered to participate in the Verano Joven program, which offers discounts of up to 90% on transport tickets. The program’s website, opened on June 17, has received an avalanche of registrations, and in less than four days, young people have already obtained their codes to buy discount tickets.
In a statement, Gómez de Diego encouraged young Cantabrians to take advantage of this initiative: “The Young Summer is a unique opportunity for young people, not only because of the significant reductions in transport, but also because of the boost it offers to their training and personal development. It is a way to foster their creativity, intercultural skills and personal independence,” he said.
The delegate stressed that the Government’s objective is to work for young people, promoting their training and personal development. “We want to give young people the tools they need to discover new horizons, learn from other cultures and strengthen their education. This program not only gives them the opportunity to travel, but also strengthens their integral growth," he said.
In addition, he pointed out that this initiative also seeks to contribute to the consolidation of the tourist and cultural sectors after the pandemic, promoting national destinations and collaborating with the development of rural Spain. "It is essential to support the tourism and cultural sector in this period of recovery. At the same time, we empower national destinations and help revitalise rural areas, which have a lot to offer and deserve to be discovered," added the delegate.
"We are very pleased with the reception that the Junior Summer program is having. This response demonstrates our young people's interest in the government-led initiative," he said.

Registration for the programme, which is open to young people born between 1994 and 2006, is still open and can be done at any time by filling in the form available on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. Once registered, the young person will receive a personal and non-transferable code with which he can buy the tickets with discounts to the operators.
