The Government Delegation in Cantabria today celebrated an emotional act of recognition of the Merit of Civil Protection, in which the altruistic and committed work of various members and units of this body essential for the safety and well-being of citizens has been highlighted.
The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, accompanied by the General Director of Security and Citizen Protection, the Head of the Civil Protection Unit of the Government Delegation and other civil and military authorities, presided over the event. In his speech, he stressed the importance of the dedication and solidarity of the decorated, underlining their ability to give the best of themselves in difficult times.
"Today, the Civil Protection Corps is an example of good functioning, teamwork and versatility; a precise and always coordinated gear, which can only be maintained thanks to dedicated units and people like you and yourselves," said the delegate. In addition, he highlighted the recent performance in Soba, where the collaboration and efficiency of the teams allowed the successful rescue of Paloma and Alfonso, evidencing the speed and effectiveness of civil protection operations.
Among the honorees was Marcos Gracia Garallar, who has been awarded the Medal of Merit of Civil Protection in his BRONZE category and with AZUL badge, in recognition of his extensive collaboration with the Civil Protection Unit of the Government Delegation in Cantabria. Gracia has continued the work begun by his father in 1982, providing human and material resources to ensure the operation of emergency communications equipment in the region.
Likewise, the National Emergency Radio Network (REMER) Cantabria has been distinguished, whose provincial coordinator, José Antonio Axpe Soto, has received the same decoration on behalf of the unit. REMER Cantabria has played a crucial role in various emergency situations, from floods and speleological rescues to the collapse of critical infrastructures, providing essential communications when the state media could not operate.
The Government delegate expressed her deep gratitude and admiration for the winners, highlighting their spirit of sacrifice and vocation for public service. "You are a great reflection of the modern, caring and committed society, which is today Spain, a model of dedication and vocation for public service," said Gómez de Diego.
The event concluded with a message of thanks addressed to all those present, reiterating the commitment of the Government of Spain to civil protection and the recognition of those who, with their selfless work, contribute to the safety and well-being of all.
