The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, attended today the open day organized by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) that has allowed visitors to know closely the work carried out by this institution in the field of meteorology and climatology.
During the day, which was held on the occasion of Open Administration Week, visitors have been able to participate in various activities, such as a guided visit to the AEMET facilities, where they have been able to see closely how meteorological data are collected and processed, how weather forecasts are prepared and how information is disseminated to citizens.
In addition, a talk has been held on various topics related to meteorology and climatology, such as climate change, extreme weather phenomena or weather forecasting.
The day was an opportunity for the general public to get to know the AEMET and the important work carried out by this institution to protect people and goods from the risks associated with meteorological phenomena, as well as the influence of its predictions on economic activities such as maritime or air traffic.
Open Administration Week
Open Government Week is an initiative promoted worldwide by the Alliance for Open Government and organized in Spain by the General Subdirectorate of Open Government of the Ministry of Finance and Public Function, which aims to bring public administrations closer to citizens and promote transparency, participation and accountability.
Along these lines, the Government Delegation in Cantabria has prepared a program of activities that started today at the AEMET and will continue tomorrow Tuesday with a Day against hate crimes directed at NGOs, which will take place at the headquarters of the Delegation (C/Calvo Sotelo, 25) and will be taught by the Civil Guard.
The following day, on Wednesday, June 12, the headquarters of the Government Delegation will also host several activities: on the one hand, the General Directorate of Traffic will install a stand where citizens can learn about the services of the Electronic Headquarters of the DGT and the operation of the MiDGT App.
Starting at 10.30 a.m., a talk will be given with the aim of bringing the uses of e-government closer to the efforts to be made by foreign people. In the afternoon, from 4:00 p.m., an activity is scheduled, in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Deaf People of Cantabria (FESCAN), which aims to provide deaf people with access to e-government and applications that may be useful.
On June 13, the Unit against Gender Violence of the Delegation will offer a Training Day to lawyers and lawyers of the Office of Violence against Women, which will take place at 4:30 p.m., at the headquarters of the Government Delegation.
Bringing the administration closer to the citizenry
The delegate of the Government Gómez de Diego has highlighted the importance of this type of initiatives to "bring the Administration closer to the citizens and promote transparency and participation". “It is important that citizens feel they are an active part of the Administration and that they know their rights and obligations,” said Gómez de Diego, encouraging citizens to participate in the activities.
"It's a good opportunity to get to know up close how the administration works and how we can make use of the services it offers," he added.
