The Government Delegation in Cantabria and the Civil Guard relaunch the Special Responsible Leisure Plan, an initiative whose objective is to “guarantee the safety and well-being of citizens and tourists during the summer season”. The plan, which will run from June 1 to September 30, extends its scope this year to the municipality of San Vicente de la Barquera, joining Castro Urdiales, Laredo, Noja, Santoña, Suances and Potes.
In a meeting held today under the direction of the Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, the chief colonel Antonio Orantos and other commanders of the Civil Guard, representatives of the municipalities involved and the regional government participated, and in it the axes of action of the special device have been established.
The delegate explained that the plan includes "a wide range of measures aimed at preventing and acting on any type of incidence, from gender and sexual violence to the protection of minors, through the control of alcohol and drug consumption, road safety, public order and environmental protection."
In this regard, Gómez de Diego has stressed the importance of collaboration between the different administrations, security forces and social agents for the success of the plan. "We all have to work together to ensure a quiet and safe summer in Cantabria," he said.
To carry out the plan, there will be a large police device made up of more than 600 Civil Guard agents, including specialized units such as the Cavalry Squadron and the Reserve and Security Group (ARS), the Underwater Activities Group (GEAS) and the Air Service, which will travel to Cantabria to strengthen security during the summer season. To these officers will be added agents of the Local Police of the municipalities involved.
The delegate of the Government has thanked the “committed work” of the troops of the security forces and bodies especially at a time when the activity in leisure and tourism areas is increasing, while calling for the responsibility of all citizens to enjoy a safe summer and respectful of the environment.
Alertcops
The Alertcops app, available free of charge for mobile devices, becomes a tool for citizens’ safety during the summer season.
This app allows you to establish direct contact with the Civil Guard, share the location with chosen people or with the security forces in case of emergency, send an immediate warning to the Civil Guard with the location and a 10-second audio in case of feeling threatened or being a victim of a crime, and send photos and videos to provide information about a crime.
The Special Responsible Leisure Plan is complemented by the Safe Tourism Plan, which covers all municipalities of Cantabria and aims to ensure a safe environment for both tourists and residents.
