The Government, through the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, announced on Tuesday the provisional approval of the first 19 resolutions of the Strategic Project (PERTE) of industrial decarbonization, two of which will be developed in Cantabria to the value of 30.1 million euros.
This was announced by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, during his speech at the 12th Annual Energy Day of ESADE, where he detailed that the evaluation committee has already approved the first 19 provisional resolutions of the call for line 1 of the PERTE, with aid worth about 96 million euros, which will allow to mobilize more than 307 million euros of total investment.
The Industrial Decarbonization PERTE is a key initiative in the drive towards a more sustainable economy, focusing on reducing carbon emissions in the industrial sector through the use of innovative technologies and eco-efficient practices.
The line 1 of comprehensive action aid for decarbonization supports the actions carried out by national industries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including the decarbonization of energy sources with the electrification of processes and the incorporation of hydrogen; integral energy management of industrial processes; reduction of the use of natural resources or carbon capture, among other lines of action. It is endowed with €1 billion, €500 million in grants and another €500 million in loans. It is planned to launch a second call for line 1 during the second half of the year 2024.
The 19 projects provisionally granted at national level in this first resolution come from the following companies: ACOR, BIOTHERMAL VILLANUEVA, MEAT AND VEGETABLES, CEMENT TUDELA VEGUÍN, CEMEX (2), BEERS MAHOU, CITRUS FROM ANDARAX, EDERFIL BECKER KOOP, ENCE, ENSO ESCO (2), FERROGLOBE SPAIN METALS, GESTAMP (2), INDUSTRIAS PELETERAS, RESONAC GRAPHITE SPAIN, SOLVAY QUIMICA, and ZUKAN.
In the case of Cantabria, these are the two projects provisionally approved under the PERTE:
ENSO ESCO S.L. (Torrelavega)
ENSO ESCO SL participates in the project of improvement of the industrial complex of Torrelavega through a project for the replacement of two main boilers (GNSP0 and GN-SP 1) by a cogeneration plant with biomass boiler. It has obtained 30 million in grants.
SOLVAY QUIMICA S.L. (Torrelavega)
SOLVAY QUIMICA is a company that is mainly engaged in the manufacture of other basic products of inorganic chemistry. Among its products are essential chemical compounds such as caustic soda, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and other key inorganic products, detailed below, used in various industries, such as textiles, paper and water treatment, among others. Its approach covers the efficient and sustainable production of such substances for different industrial applications.
Solvay has developed a decarbonization plan “SOLVAY ONE PLANET” for the chemical industry of Torrelavega that, among others, implements an improvement of energy efficiency and reduction of natural gas consumption through the implementation of a frequency variator in the compressor feed used in its production process. It has obtained 152,802 euros of subsidy.
