The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) foresees more than 98,000 trips in Cantabria throughout the Special Operation on May 1, which starts this Tuesday and will last until Sunday.
The 98,000 trips planned for this bridge represent an increase of 19% compared to this same period of the year 2023, when the estimates pointed to 82,000 trips.
As usual, during these days the greatest presence of vehicles is expected to occur in tourist areas, such as access to beaches and mountain environments.
The point of greatest traffic intensity will be at the accesses to Cantabria from the Plateau by the A-67, especially at its confluence with the A-8 in the surroundings of Torrelavega, especially during the afternoon of Tuesday 30 and in the morning of Wednesday 1, in the direction of Cantabria.
Likewise, intense traffic is expected throughout Sunday, May 5, coinciding with the completion of the bridge and the return of vehicles to their places of origin.
For the development of this special operation, the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard will deploy in Cantabria up to 180 agents, who will count on the collaboration of the local police of the main municipalities of the region.
In the country as a whole, the DGT forecasts more than 8.4 million displacements in these days.
Call to prudence
The DGT always recommends, before starting the trip, to be informed of the weather forecasts at the State Meteorological Agency, review the vehicle’s set-up and, of course, makes a call for prudence, responsibility at the wheel and respect for traffic regulations, especially in view of the increase in road accident that has been recorded in recent months.
