The Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda (MIVAU) has concluded an agreement with the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, to finance the construction of 119 homes in energy-efficient buildings intended for social rent. MIVAU will provide 5.4 million euros of the 18.8 million euros budgeted for the implementation of these projects, divided into three actions, from the NextGenerationEU funds within the framework of the Transformation and Resilience Recovery Plan (PRTR).
The agreement includes aid for the construction of homes that will be developed under public promotion, through the regional company Management of Homes and Infrastructures of Cantabria, S.L. (GESVICAN), on land ceded to GESVICAN by the respective municipalities, with the following distribution:
- 46 homes in Piélagos.
- 37 homes in Laredo.
- 36 homes in Santa Cruz de Bezana.
New agreements
Through this aid plan, MIVAU aims to finance the increase in the public housing stock for social rent or affordable housing, through new construction promotions on publicly owned land. These homes will be part of the public park for a minimum period of 50 years and their consumption of non-renewable primary energy must be at least 20% lower than the requirements required in the Technical Building Code. The works must be completed by June 30, 2026.
For this programme, endowed with €1 billion, the MIVAU has already transferred €6.48 million to the Autonomous Community of Cantabria in 2022, and the financial commitment from the annuality of the year 2023 has been formalized for the same amount, the amount of €1.04 million corresponding to that annuality having been transferred to date. The assistance provided is up to €700 per square metre of useful living space with a maximum of €50,000 per dwelling.
Previously, a first agreement of this program was signed with the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, for the financing of 170 homes for social rent in 12 actions, with a contribution of NG funds of 7.5 million euros. In this way, with the new agreement, the construction of a total of 289 homes has been formalized to date in 15 actions within nine municipalities of the community, with a contribution of NG funds of 12.96 million euros, thus exhausting the funds corresponding to the Autonomous Community of Cantabria in this program.
