The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has today claimed the need to continue working for real and effective equality between men and women, in an institutional declaration on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Gómez de Diego highlighted that, despite the progress made in recent decades, "there is still a long way to go" in the fight against discrimination and male violence in all its forms. "It is necessary for us as a society to recognize these challenges and firmly commit ourselves to eradicating them," he said.
The delegate of the Government has highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to gender equality, recalling the measures that have been implemented in recent years, such as the extension of paternity leave, the reinforcement of the State Pact against Gender Violence or the promotion of equal pay.
Gómez de Diego has called for unity and collaboration among all sectors of society to move towards a more just and egalitarian society. “Only together can we build a future where all people, regardless of gender, can live free from discrimination and violence,” he concluded.
Increase in the funds of the State Pact
The delegate of the Government has announced that the Government of Spain will raise up to 160 million euros the funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence destined to the autonomous communities to fight against male violence in 2024, 20 million more than the previous year.
Gómez de Diego, who will participate this afternoon in the demonstration on March 8, wanted to end his speech recognizing the work of all the women of Cantabria who "with their effort and dedication, day by day, make this region a better place".
Since Thursday morning, the Government Delegation has illuminated its façade in a purple color in support of the claims of March 8.
