The members of the Ruente Forest Fire Brigade (BRIF) do a “great job” and are a “fundamental reinforcement” in the work of extinguishing fires, which together with the agents of the natural environment, the forestry squads and the staff of the 112 face “forest fires”.
Gómez de Diego was present today at the visit to the Jaedo Heliport, in Ruente, the general director of Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, María Jesús Rodríguez de Sancho; the councilor for Rural Development, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Cantabria, Pablo Palencia and the mayor of Ruente, Jaime Diaz; members of the squads and agents of the Natural Environment of the Comarca, among others.
The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge activates this device for the winter-spring campaign between February 15 and April 30 to support the work of fighting the fires during the stage in which the greatest number of forest fires are concentrated in the autonomous community.
The Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigades (BRIF) are heliport units of highly specialized firefighting personnel that provide a support service to the autonomous communities.
Cantabria is one of the Autonomous Communities in which are located state means of support for the work of extinguishment, with the base of Ruente (heliport of Jaedo), inaugurated in 2006, which in addition to the technical staff and forest firefighters has a Bell 412 helicopter with capacity to transport personnel for extinguishing forest fires and provide air support by performing water discharges.
