The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has presided today, together with the superior head of the National Police Force in Cantabria, Carmen Martínez Ruiz, the act of celebration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of this Body, which, under the motto “Committed to you”, has taken place on the esplanade of the Superior Police Headquarters of Cantabria, on Avenida del Deportes in Santander.
During the event, the delegate of the Government highlighted the work of “prevention, assistance and protection” carried out by the National Police, a “modern body, adapted to the times, and with a clear sign of identity: to serve the citizens”.
In this regard, Gómez de Diego pointed out that “we must be proud and proud because your collaboration is key to making Spain one of the safest countries in the world”, a factor that, in his words, “is one of those that has contributed most to strengthening our institutions by allowing a model of peaceful and tolerant, accessible and inclusive social coexistence”.
During the event, which has also been attended by other civil authorities, police officers and numerous citizens, in addition to the raising of the flag and the interpretation of the national anthem, tribute has been paid to the policemen killed in the act of service, an extensive recognition to the Civil Guard, policemen of other bodies and military, who also gave their lives in the service to Spain and the citizens.
On January 13, the National Police has celebrated 200 years of history. Under the motto “Committed to you”, the Bicentenary is a historical milestone that makes the National Police the oldest state body in all the Spanish Security Forces and Corps.
