The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, participated this Tuesday in the event on the occasion of the departure from the beach of Liencres, in Piélagos, of the stage of the Cycling Tour to Spain and culminating in the town of Bejes, in Cillorigo de Liébana.
On the occasion of the 16th stage, the Civil Guard has established a special safety and traffic device, since cyclists pass through 14 municipalities of the Autonomous Community and, for the development of the route, three links have had to be cut from the A-67 and A-8 motorways, the N-621 and different regional roads.
With a route of 119.7 kilometers, the stage crosses the municipalities of Piélagos, Polanco, Torrelavega, Reocín, Santillana del Mar, Suances, Alfoz de Lloredo, Ruiloba, Comillas, Valdáliga, San Vicente de la Barquera, Val de San Vicente, Peñamellera Baja (Asturias), Peñarrubia and Cillorigo de Liébana, to culminate in a second-class port (529 meters).
In addition to the special device in the Autonomous Community, the Civil Guard creates as in previous years the Mobility and Road Safety Unit that accompanies and protects La Vuelta throughout its journey.
This Mobility and Road Safety Unit (UMSV) is composed of a total of 134 personnel, composed of personnel from the Traffic Grouping, the Reserve and Safety Grouping (ARS), the Air Service, Transmission Service and Motoring.
The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, accompanied by the chief colonel of the Civil Guard in the Community, Antonio Orantos, has reviewed the personnel of this unit and has valued the work they carry out throughout the Cycling Tour to Spain to “provide security and mobility to the runners of La Vuelta, organizational vehicles, support and advertising caravan, as well as guarantee road safety to the rest of users affected by the development of the event.”
Together with this special unit, a special security and traffic device has also been established in Cantabria by the Civil Guard and in which agents of the local police and Civil Protection volunteers from the municipalities through which the route passes also collaborate.
For that special device of the stage La Vuelta in Cantabria, which takes place until 8 p.m. this Tuesday, the Command of the Civil Guard of Cantabria allocates 121 personnel of the Traffic and Citizen Security Sector.
