The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has awarded the works of “Hydromorphological recovery of the Saja River between the nuclei of Caranceja and Casar, in the municipal terms of Reocín and Cabezón de la Sal (Cantabria)” to the company SERANCO, S.A., for an amount of 3,422,581.80€.
The project includes a series of actions aimed at environmentally restoring this stretch of the Saja River, between the towns of Caranceja and Casar, and reducing the risk of flooding in front of the avenues in the surrounding towns.
To do this, the project proposes to recover old arms of the Saja River, currently not functioning, which will be continued until downstream of Casar de Periedo, for which it will be necessary to build a drainage project under the N-634 road as it passes through Caranceja.
These actions will also be complemented by elements of defense against the avenues of the towns of Casar de Periedo and Caranceja, since the section in question is located in one of the areas identified as of danger and extreme risk against floods within the Demarcation, due to the possibility of being affected a large number of population and causing numerous economic damages.
Together with these proposals, and in order to promote the improvement of the genetic and ecological quality of plant communities in the recovered riverbed, forestry treatments, mitigation and control of exotic species and recolonization with native varieties established in other sections of the river will be implemented.
