The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has completed maintenance, conservation and improvement work on the Pisueña River, in the vicinity of the La Hoz neighborhood, in the municipality of Santa María de Cayón.
The Pisueña River, in the vicinity of La Hoz, runs around an island with tree species of great environmental value. In this area of the riverbed, various blockages caused by vegetable remains had been formed, mainly due to the fall of large trees, which caused the diversion of the current towards the right margin, aggravating erosion and putting the adjacent lands at risk.
The accumulated plant remains have been removed to recover the course and mitigate the erosive processes of the margin.
This work has involved an investment of 6,979.82 € and has been carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, in which the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the competence of the municipalities.
