About 275 agents of the Civil Guard will make up the security device for the Opening of the Door of Forgiveness of the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, which will take place on Sunday, April 16 and will mark the beginning of the Lebaniego Jubilee Year.
The Government delegate in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, chaired on Tuesday the Security Board for the operation of the opening of the Door of Forgiveness and the concerts organized by the regional government in Potes and Santo Toribio.
Quiñones highlighted “the common goal of all administrations to make the Jubilee Year a success and, for this, the safety of attendees to all religious and cultural events is essential”.
Therefore, he has praised the work that the Civil Guard will carry out in order to open the Door of Forgiveness and the great events that will take place in the region of Liébana through a Special Security Plan prepared for this Lebaniego Jubilee Year.
This Plan has been presented at the Security Board in which the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Innovation, Transport and Trade, Javier López Marcano, has participated, who has thanked the exceptional device that has been designed to guarantee the security of the Lebaniego Jubilee Year.
“Everything is ready for the launch event declared of exceptional interest. In the first semester alone, more than 400 activities have been organized. We have been working on this device for months so that everything goes perfectly,” said López Marcano.
The meeting was also attended by the colonel of the Civil Guard, Antonio Orantos; the provincial head of Traffic, José Miguel Tolosa; the head of the State Road Demarcation in Cantabria, Rosendo Martínez; the vicar general of the Bishopric of Santander, Sergio Llata; the prior of the Monastery of Santo Toribio, José María Lucas; and the president of the Cofradía Santísima Cruz, José Redondo, among others.
The Special Security Plan for the Lebaniego Jubilee Year establishes the different special devices of the Civil Guard aimed at ensuring the normal functioning of the scheduled activities and during the pilgrimage in this jubilee period.
The largest device will correspond to the Opening of the Door of Forgiveness on April 16, where the maintenance of public order, the protection of citizen security and road safety will be the main axes of the operation, with some 275 troops.
The Reserve and Security Group (ARS), the Traffic Group, the Civil Guard Air Service, the Pegasus Team to control the use of drones, the Weapons Intervention, the Citizen Security Units or the USECIC will participate.
In addition, a van to assist the pilgrim of the Civil Guard will travel along the road sections of the Camino Lebaniego, a route that will also be secured with the presence of the Cavalry Group, SEPRONA, ROCA Team and the reinforcement of the GREIM in the sections of greater difficulty.
It also provides for the presence of the Civil Guard in shelters located in the final stages of each section, so that anyone who needs help, assistance or advice can receive it.
On the other hand, from the Secretary of State for Security it is planned to enable in the ALERTCOPS Platform an exclusive tab for the Camino Lebaniego in the same way as there is for the Camino de Santiago. Those who sign up for the application available on Android systems and IOs will be able to receive warnings and messages related to security.
In addition, the email has been enabled from the Civil Guard Area of Cantabria s-zon-cantabria-caminolebaniego@guardiacivil.org for any communication or contribution of citizens and pilgrims with the Civil Guard.
