The residents of Santoña will have in the coming days a metal walkway that will facilitate the access in comfort and safety to the beach of San Martín, on the promenade of the municipality, thanks to a project financed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
The government delegate in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, and the mayor of Santoña, Sergio Abascal, have inaugurated this new infrastructure on Monday that has been executed in a way that is “removable and transportable” so that it provides service during the summer season and can then be withdrawn.
Quiñones has praised that MITECO, through the Demarcation of Coasts in Cantabria, has executed this runway with an investment of 121,000 euros that has been carried out by the company Yatch Port Marinas S.L. with an execution period of five months.
“In the next few days, the residents of Santoña will be able to access this beach, as well as the trousers, in conditions of comfort and security,” said the Government delegate.
Quiñones has detailed that the walkway is built in stainless steel metal structure for the marine environment, and is removable and transportable, so that municipal services can remove it when the summer season ends and reassemble it at the beginning of the following season, avoiding its deterioration due to the action of the waves.
For the anchorage of the walkway, a structure has been built that consists of a horizontal upper platform of 10 meters in length and 2.17 meters in total width, including handrails and grid, which will be fixed.
From this platform, it is from where the detachable ramp that serves as access to the beach starts. The fixed section and the ramp are anchored to the stone wall that limits the seafront. The sloped section has a length of 33 m with a width of 1.80, and the final section of the ramp, 3.60 meters in length, is not fastened to the wall, but rests on the ramp and rests on the sand.
The mayor of Santoña stressed that “this partially removable walkway, which also has a fixed part as a viewpoint, is an infrastructure that was being demanded by the City Council to Costas and is finally a reality”.
“In the next few days the works will end and will provide access service to the beach of San Martín in a totally accessible way at the height of the pier,” added Abascal.
The Government delegate in Cantabria and the mayor of Santoña have been accompanied in the visit by the head of the Coastal Demarcation in Cantabria, José Antonio Osorio, and several councilors of the City Council
