The Autonomous Commission of the Higher Council of Traffic, Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility has promoted on Monday a specific working group on road accidents at work and has analyzed the general accident figures of 2022 on the roads of the Autonomous Community.
The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, and the provincial head of Traffic, José Miguel Tolosa, have today presided over this body in which the specific problems of the Autonomous Community in traffic and road safety are analyzed, improvement actions are proposed and the actions of the previous year are taken into account.
From the Provincial Traffic Headquarters, Tolosa has detailed the main accident figures for the last year, in which Cantabria died 18 people in a traffic accident, 13 in interurban roads and 5 in urban areas.
With these 18 deaths, Cantabria reached the highest figure in the last three years since in 2019, 2020 and 2021, with 13 deaths, the lowest fatal accident of the entire historical series of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in the Autonomous Community was recorded.
It has also been realized that in Cantabria in 2022 there were a total of 2,882 traffic accidents compared to 3,074 in 2021, which accounted for 6.3% less. As for the people affected by these disasters, they amounted to 1,353 (between deaths and serious and minor injuries).
The number of complaints processed by the General Directorate of Traffic in Cantabria has also been explained. At this point, the provincial head of Traffic has detailed that in 2022 125,281 complaints were processed, 26.4% more than in 2021.
In addition to giving the green light to the establishment of the new working group on road accidents, progress has also been reported in the Working Group on the problems caused by road accidents caused by the invasion of animals.
At this point, the Provincial Traffic Headquarters has highlighted the importance of this working group due to the significant number of accidents that annually have the double component of work accident and road accident.
Representatives of different Units of the General Administration of the State with direct or indirect competence related to Traffic and Road Safety have participated in the Commission, among them the commander of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard, Rubén Flores.
Representatives of the areas of Public Works, Transport, Industry, Presidency, Health or Biodiversity of the regional government, and representatives of the local police have also participated.
