The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, has advanced this Thursday that the humanization works of the N-629 and N-634 as they pass through Colindres, tendered by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), “will be awarded before summer”.
Quiñones has met this Thursday with the mayor of Colindres, Javier Incera, in the City Hall, to address this next action of the Ministry in the municipality and that was put out to tender at the end of December for a budget of 446,270 euros (VAT included).
The delegate highlighted the commitment of Mitma to improve the crossings of the national roads and detailed that in Cantabria, in addition to Colindres, there are other projects in the tender phase, as well as in preparation, to humanize the national roads as they pass through the urban environment of the municipalities.
In the case of Colindres, he recalled that the project includes improvements in accessibility conditions in pedestrian crossings and elimination of architectural barriers in pedestrian itineraries, replacement of pavement in damaged sidewalks, replacement of current luminaires with luminaires with LED technology and installation of new units, change of traffic lights on the crossing and installation of LED capta-lights assembly in smart pedestrian crossings.
This project, which is funded by the NextGenerationEU funds, shows the change in road policy in favour of sustainable and active mobility, thus improving road safety for pedestrians and cyclists on the crossing, as well as its accessibility.
The objective is to generate, in relation to the State Road Network, a more accessible, inclusive and sustainable urban environment that helps decarbonize urban mobility and improve air quality.
In addition, Quiñones has indicated that the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, through the State Road Demarcation, is also currently asphalting another section of the N-629 in the municipality of Colindres, specifically the one included in the project of humanization works.
Thus, the delegate has pointed out that these are two actions “very important for Colindres and its neighbors” and that they will mean a “substantial improvement of road and pedestrian safety” in the urban center of the municipality.
“We know that great works are important, but this type of actions that the Government of Spain does together with the municipalities and their mayors, who are the ones who know first-hand the needs of their neighbors, are the ones that improve the daily life of the citizens,” he added.
The mayor of Colindres has thanked the Ministry and the Government Delegation for “investing in the municipality”, currently in the asphalt of a section of the N-629 and that it is “necessary works to improve the state of the road”.
“But more important is the work that is in tender by the Government of Spain to improve the N-634, and another part of the N-629, with which not only will the asphalt be improved but also the sidewalks and lighting will be improved and that, in short, will mean a modernization of all the roads that cross our municipality,” said Incera.
