The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands celebrates Open Administration Week 2025 through a series of activities that will take place in the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Gomera and El Hierro from May 19 to 23.
This initiative, coordinated and promoted by the General Directorate of Public Governance of the Government of Spain and framed in the International Alliance for Open Government, seeks to bring Public Administrations closer to the citizens, based on the principles of transparency, accountability, citizen participation, public integrity and collaboration.
“We are redoubling our efforts to bring the State Administration to all corners of the Canary Islands. We are arriving with the plan ‘The Administration near you’ to the less populated municipalities. And next week we want to welcome all the citizens to our seven headquarters, with open doors, so that they know our work first-hand”, says the government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana.
“Once again, we are not missing this appointment of transparency and the search for citizen participation. To do this, we have prepared a program of activities thinking about citizenship, which we invite you to meet us, raise your concerns and also propose areas of improvement to offer you the best possible service”, he adds.
From Monday 19 to Friday 23 May
The Government delegate in the Islands will open the Open Administration Week next Monday, May 19 in Gran Canaria participating in a Conference on Security in Pyrotechnic Shows aimed at technicians of the municipalities.
It will be the starting point of a week full of initiatives that in Gran Canaria also includes on Tuesday 20 a seminar to make the consular body aware of the new Regulation on Foreigners.
On Thursday the 22nd a guided visit to the Border Inspection Post (PIF) of Gran Canaria has been organized for the students of schools on the island.
On the same day, there will be a talk/colloquium on Homologations of Studies of Foreign Educational Systems (mainly from countries of South America and Africa). In addition, a workshop course will be offered at the International Vaccination Center on sanitary hygiene inspections of ships, procedures and vaccination of crews of these boats.
On Friday 23 at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands there will be a meeting with schoolchildren to learn about the first experiences and citizen participation in municipal policies in democracy.
In Tenerife, Open Administration Week begins on Monday 19 in the Government Subdelegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with a day for professionals on coordination in terms of sanctioning procedure between State Security Forces and Bodies and the Government Subdelegation.
On Wednesday 21 there will be a meeting of former sub-delegates of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while on Thursday 22 there will be space to publicize the network of resources of the General Administration of the State (AGE) in the field of prevention and fight against violence against women, which will include the presentation of the violet point.
Also on Thursday, all the novelties that the new Regulation on Foreigners incorporates are presented on the island.
On Friday 23rd the doors of the Subdelegation of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be opened for the visit of students of schools on the island, in addition to hosting a reception of mayors and mayors of the municipalities of Tenerife.
In La Palma, schoolchildren will also participate on Wednesday 21 in an Open Day in which they will simulate a security coordination meeting with Security Forces and Bodies, presided over by the government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana.
Among the events that La Palma hosts in this Open Administration Week, a day is included on Monday 19 in Tazacorte to report on the Plan “The Administration near you” that has been launched by the Ministry of Territorial Policy to facilitate that the inhabitants of the less populated municipalities do not have to travel and can carry out the procedures from their localities of residence.
Also that day, in Santa Cruz de la Palma a workshop course will be held under the title of "Prevention and Fight against Radicalization". Aimed at public employees, this course will offer practical techniques for identifying and preventing radicalized behaviors in community settings.
The Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in La Palma will offer on Tuesday 20 in Puntagorda a face-to-face workshop on Electronic Administration aimed at the general public, so that they learn to master the digital tools that speed up daily procedures. Also open to citizens will be the workshop on cybersecurity that will take place in San Andrés and Sauces on Thursday 22 to, through real cases, learn to detect fraud, create secure passwords and avoid phishing attacks.
On Friday, the Insular Directorate opens its doors to publicize inside the services offered by the General Administration of the State in La Palma.
In Lanzarote, there will also be Open Days in the Insular Direction of the AGE. On Monday 19, with a guided visit by the agency for the Mental Health Association El Cribo, in which the work carried out in each of the services will be explained. And on Friday the 23rd for schoolchildren. On both occasions there will also be a talk made by a representative of the National Police, the Civil Guard and an official of the Insular Directorate, and an exhibition of the official vehicles of these bodies.
In addition, on Thursday 22 in Arrecife there will be an information day for the College of Social Graduates by representatives of the National Institute of Social Security, in which the website of Social Security benefits will be discussed.
In La Gomera, different workshops related to security take centre stage. They will begin on Tuesday 20 with a colloquium discussion at the headquarters of the Insular Directorate of the AGE on security on the island.
On Thursday the 22nd will take over a workshop course on Cybersecurity and electronic signature training, aimed at professional groups, as well as training aimed at students from the island to offer guidance on good practices in public security and social networks, among other areas.
The Open Administration Week will open in Fuerteventura on Monday 19 with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition of the artist Rafael Morales at the headquarters of the Insular Directorate.
The weekly program of events includes a visit to the Soria 9 Infantry Regiment, where the program "The Administration Near You" will be presented to the soldiers.
In addition, members of the Civil Guard and the National Police will offer various talks throughout the week to schoolchildren in educational centers in Pájara, Tuineje and Puerto del Rosario, while the staff of the National Institute of Social Security will speak with the College of Social Graduates on the Minimum Vital Income, pensions and other issues of interest.
To end the week, an exhibition of National Police vehicles will take place on Friday the 23rd at a school.
In El Hierro, the Insular Directorate organized for Monday 19 an Open Day in which the citizens of the island are invited to visit its headquarters to know closely the services it offers and the operation of the Electronic Administration, as well as the Plan "The Administration near you". On Tuesday the 20th, students from the Business Administration cycle will visit the headquarters.
