The Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in La Gomera has celebrated a tribute to women of the island with an outstanding social involvement in an act framed in the activities organized on the occasion of the 8M, International Women’s Day, which this year has had as its motto “For all women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”.
The tribute, which took place this past March 12, has been presided over by the island director in La Gomera, Juan Luis Navarro, and has recognized the role played by María Martín Medina (Agulo), Demetria Bernal Herrera (Alajeró), María Isabel Aguiar Rizo (Hermigua), Dolores Darias Padilla (San Sebastián), Mercedes Correa Correa (Valle Gran Rey), Rosalía Padrón Quintero (Vallehermoso) and Ana Magali (Rodríguez).
During the event, Juan Luis Navarro, who highlighted “the empowerment of Gomera, Canary and Spanish women”, said: “This year we wanted to focus especially on women who have demonstrated active social commitment. They know how hard it is and how much teamwork is worth. Their contributions are born from the vital energy that moves them, from the necessities of life, from so many facts that have put them to the test, and have overcome them with note.”
The Insular Directorate in La Gomera, which also joined the reading of the institutional declaration organized by the Delegation of the Government in the Canary Islands for its seven island headquarters, has made a series of posters commemorating the International Women’s Day for the Port of San Sebastián de La Gomera, and the other municipalities of the island.
