The Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in Fuerteventura has also taken to the roads of the majorero territory the signs of island and municipalities committed against gender violence that, since March 2024, are at the entrance and exit of the population centers of La Gomera.
This state initiative, which began in the Island Directorate in La Gomera, has now been carried out by the headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands in Fuerteventura through its Violence Unit on Women and in collaboration with the Municipalities of the island and with Aena.
This project aims to give greater visibility to the rejection of gender violence, exalting in turn the values of commitment of the majoreros and the majoreras and their determined commitment to a respectful world with a coexistence free of male stereotypes, while promoting the dissemination of this message also among tourists who visit Fuerteventura.
The representation of the Government of Spain on the island has designed and invited the municipalities to install the declaratory signs of their commitment against gender violence in circulation of the municipality, and these have accepted, which makes Fuerteventura together with La Gomera in territories fully committed in the fight against this scourge.
“Fuerteventura could not be left behind and had to join this action of visibility of the commitment of our population against gender violence. The municipal leaders welcomed our invitation from the outset and we want to thank the mayors and their teams for participating in what is a strong signal against this social scourge,” says the island director in Fuerteventura, María Jesús de la Cruz.
“From this Insular Directorate we work from two levels mainly in the fight against gender violence: social awareness and care for victims. Social awareness with meeting spaces and forums in which to send clear messages for equality between men and women and against any type of male violence. And from the attention of monitoring the cases that may occur on the island, promoting the coordination of all the actors involved in the protection of women and their daughters and sons,” he adds.
